What It Is

What is an email QR code?

An email QR code is a static QR code that opens the scanner's default email app with the recipient address, subject line, and body text pre-filled. Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and most other email apps support it.

drafts

One scan, one tap

The scanner sees the mailto: link and opens a new email draft. The person just hits Send.

wifi_off

No app install

Works with whatever email app the phone already uses.

dns

No internet dependency

The link is stored in the QR pattern itself. Scanning works offline. Sending the email requires a connection.

What you can pre-fill

Three fields you can pre-fill

An email QR code can include more than just the recipient address. You control what appears in the draft.

alternate_email

Recipient (To)

The email address that receives the message. This field works on every email app.

subject

Subject line

A pre-written subject so the sender does not have to think of one. Useful for routing messages to the right inbox folder.

description

Body text

A short pre-filled message. Helpful for support requests, order references, or RSVP confirmations where you want a specific format.

info The person scanning can edit any of these fields before sending. Nothing is locked. The more fields you add, the larger the QR pattern becomes — keep the subject short and the body to a sentence or two so the code stays easy to scan at small sizes.
Compatibility

Subject and body support varies by app

The recipient field works everywhere. Subject and body are less consistent. Here is what to expect.

tips_and_updates If your audience uses a mix of email apps, keep the subject line short and treat the body as optional. The recipient field is the one you can always count on. Need guaranteed delivery of a full message? Consider a dynamic URL QR code that links to a contact form instead.
Create It

Create a QR code for email in 3 steps

1

Enter the email address

The address people will email when they scan. Double-check for typos. Once printed, it cannot be changed.

2

Add a subject and body (optional)

Pre-fill the subject line and message if you want a consistent format. Leave them blank to let the sender write their own.

3

Download and print

PNG or SVG. Add it to business cards, flyers, packaging, or signage.

Want to change the email address later? Generate and reprint a new code. Static QR codes cannot be edited after creation.
Use Cases

Where to use an email QR code

Anywhere you want people to reach you without typing your address.

inventory_2

Product packaging

Place a QR code for new support email, complaints, warranty, or reorder inquiries.

event

Event badges and lanyards

Attendees scan to contact you, request materials, or send follow-up details.

description

Flyers and posters

Add a QR code to mail RSVP, request, or feedback.

support_agent

Storefronts and reception desks

Visitors can send you a message without waiting in line.

receipt_long

Invoices and receipts

Include a QR code that opens a pre-filled email for billing questions.

id_card

Business cards

Pair with your contact details. One scan starts a conversation.

Limitations

What static email QR codes cannot do

Static QR codes are simple and permanent. That means some things are outside their reach.

close

No editing after print

The email address, subject, and body are baked into the pattern. Change any field and you need a new code.

close

No scan tracking

Static codes do not connect to a server. You will not know how many people scanned or where.

close

No landing page

The code opens the email app directly. There is no intermediate page to show your brand, hours, or other details.

close

No A/B testing

One code, one destination. You cannot rotate recipients or messages.

For most "scan to email us" use cases, these limits do not matter. The code does one thing and does it reliably.
