Cookie Policy

Effective Date: February 15, 2026
Last Updated: February 15, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies FreeQR ("we," "us," or "our") uses on freeqr.com and on landing pages hosted through the FreeQR platform. It also explains how you can manage your preferences.

This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes how we handle personal data more broadly.

1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you use the site.

Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and pixel tags. When we say "cookies" in this policy, we mean all of these.

2. How We Use Cookies

We use cookies on two types of pages:

  • freeqr.com -- Our main website and application, used by Account Holders to create and manage QR codes and landing pages.
  • FreeQR-hosted landing pages -- Public pages created by Account Holders, visited by End Users who scan QR codes.

The cookies used on each may differ. Landing pages on the Free Plan include advertising cookies. Landing pages on Paid Plans do not.

3. Cookie Categories

What analytics cookies do NOT do:

  • They do not identify you personally.
  • They do not track you across other websites.
  • They do not serve advertisements.

Legal basis: Consent. Analytics cookies are only loaded after you accept them through our cookie banner.

3.4. Advertising Cookies

These cookies are used only on Free Plan landing pages to display advertisements. They are set by our advertising partners.

Cookie Purpose Duration
Ad targeting Serves relevant ads based on browsing context Varies by partner
Frequency capping Prevents the same ad from showing repeatedly Varies by partner

These cookies are NOT used on:

  • The FreeQR website (freeqr.com)
  • Landing pages on Paid Plans

Legal basis: Consent. Advertising cookies are only loaded after consent is obtained through our cookie banner. Where consent is not given, ads are served without tracking (contextual ads only).

3.5. Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are set by services we use to operate FreeQR:

Service Purpose Cookie Type More Info
Paddle Payment processing and checkout Essential Paddle Privacy
Zendesk Help Center and customer support Functional Zendesk Privacy

We do not control third-party cookies. Each provider's privacy policy governs how they use the data collected through their cookies.

4. Your Choices

4.1. Cookie Consent Banner

When you first visit freeqr.com or a FreeQR-hosted landing page, a cookie consent banner appears. You can:

  • Accept all -- Enables all cookie categories.
  • Reject all -- Only essential cookies are used. No analytics, functional, or advertising cookies are set.
  • Manage preferences -- Choose which categories to enable or disable.

Accept and reject options are given equal prominence. We do not use pre-checked boxes or treat continued browsing as consent.

4.2. Changing Your Preferences

You can change your cookie preferences at any time:

  • Click the "Cookie Settings" link in the website footer.
  • Your updated preferences take effect immediately for new cookies. Existing cookies from rejected categories will expire naturally or can be cleared through your browser.

4.3. Browser Settings

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent the Service from working properly.

Common browser cookie settings:

  • Chrome Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies
  • Firefox Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies
  • Safari Preferences > Privacy > Cookies
  • Edge Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions

4.4. Global Privacy Control (GPC)

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as:

  • An opt-out of advertising cookies
  • An opt-out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under CCPA

You do not need to take any additional action if your browser supports GPC.

4.5. Do Not Track

There is no industry standard for how websites should respond to "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signals. We do not currently respond to DNT signals, but we do honor GPC signals as described above.

5. Cookies on Landing Pages

FreeQR-hosted landing pages may use cookies depending on the Account Holder's plan:

Plan Essential Cookies Analytics Cookies Advertising Cookies
Free Plan Yes Yes (with consent) Yes (with consent)
Paid Plans Yes Yes (with consent) No

For End Users (people who scan QR codes):

  • You will see a cookie consent banner on landing pages that use non-essential cookies.
  • You can reject all non-essential cookies. The landing page will still function normally.
  • If you have GPC enabled in your browser, advertising cookies will not be loaded.

For Account Holders:

  • Upgrading to a Paid Plan removes all advertising cookies from your landing pages.
  • Analytics cookies on your landing pages help provide the scan analytics data visible in your dashboard.

6. How Long Cookies Last

Cookies have different lifespans:

  • Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. They are used for things like keeping you logged in during a visit.
  • Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period (listed in the tables above) or until you delete them manually.

We review cookie durations regularly and do not keep cookies active longer than necessary.

7. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we add new cookies, change providers, or update our practices. When we make changes:

  • We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
  • For significant changes (such as adding a new cookie category), we will reset the cookie consent banner so you can make a new choice.
