What it is

What is an audio QR code?

An audio QR code plays your audio file when someone scans it with a phone camera. Tap play, the audio streams.

No app needed to scan

Any phone camera opens it and starts the player. Nothing to install on the scanner's side.

Works with mp3 and other formats

Upload an mp3, wav, or m4a file. Or paste a link to Spotify, SoundCloud, or YouTube Music.

Edit it later

Your code is a dynamic QR code. Swap the audio anytime. The QR pattern stays the same.

Works on iPhone and Android

One QR code, both platforms. Nothing to install for the person scanning.

Use cases

Where to use an audio QR code

Six places audio QR codes earn their keep on print or physical media. For more formats, see QR code use cases.

Museum and exhibit audio guides

Place the QR next to a piece. Visitors scan and hear the curator's notes. Swap the audio when the exhibition rotates.

Musicians and bands

Print the QR on a flyer, sticker, or album insert. Scanners hear the demo or single without searching streaming apps.

Classroom worksheets and flashcards

Teachers record a prompt or pronunciation once. Students scan the page and hear the voice note straight from paper.

Restaurant menu pronunciations

Diners scan a dish name. They hear how to say it, or the chef explaining the prep.

Voice greeting cards

Record a short message, print the QR on the card. The recipient hears your voice when they scan.

Podcast trailer on a poster

Stick the QR on a venue wall or sticker. Passers-by hear the episode trailer instantly, no typing.

FAQ

Audio QR code FAQ

Is the audio QR code really free?
Yes. The FreeQR free plan lets you create the audio QR code, host the page where it plays, see scan counts, and run unlimited scans. No credit card, no trial countdown.
Can I change the audio file after the QR code is printed?
Yes. The printed QR stays the same forever. The audio it points to does not. Swap the file or link in your FreeQR dashboard, and the next scan plays the new audio.
What audio formats and file sizes does FreeQR support?
Upload mp3, wav, or m4a files. If your audio lives on Spotify, SoundCloud, or Google Drive, paste the link instead of uploading.
Will the audio play automatically when someone scans on iPhone or Android?
The page shows a play button. iPhones do not autoplay audio. Most people tap play once, and it works the same on iPhone and Android.
Can I link to audio on Google Drive, Spotify, or SoundCloud instead of uploading?
Yes. Paste the share link into the dashboard. The page plays it from the original spot. Useful for podcasts or tracks you already host somewhere.
